• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

So I finally decided to start to try my hand at building a mesh from scratch. Hellkite was kind of enough to allow me to do his Charybdis-Class Cruiser, from his Shipyard Thread.

Here it is, what do you guys think? I'm not completely satisfied with the Deflector, wasn't quite sure what to do there.

Right now it stands at about 2200 polys or so. Working on a way to see if I can reduce that.

Not bad at all! Looks good to me, and I think 2200 is fine for a regular sized ship, especially for FO.

I agree with Z. Also, if you need to lose some polys the best place may be around the dish, but I can't really tell what HK wanted that to look like.

No

The Antares filled a variety of roles within Starfleet such as a surveyor, cargo ship and transport.

Charybdis is Cruiser for that era :) " Romulan war "

Okay, so I redid the deflector and the area around it.

So is there anyone that can point me to a good tutorial on smoothing groups or anything of the like? I'm running into some problems with certain parts of the mesh that I just can't seem to fix...

What program do you use?

I don't smooth my groups I actually get the game to do it for me by using the _!lambert texture tag, it doesn't always work perfectly but does a decent job.

I use Milkshape3D. The _!lambert tag eh? I'll have to try it when I actually figure out how to get this thing UVMapped and textured.

Yes I generally use this set up:
!phong_texturename_!lambert

The phong reflects weapons light and lambert smooths and reflects ambert light such as sun and directional light.

Slow work on the textures, but they're coming along. It's my first time doing them, so I'm having to figure out a lot of stuff along the way. But progress is still being made! :)
