Can't Play Star Trek Armada 2

Scouring the net for help but posting here too. I had mentioned before that I can no longer play A2 as of about a year ago. It worked fine stock and with mods but then took a break and now it won't even start. Could a windows update have changed something that A2 doesn't like?

I can play it as mod inside Fleet Ops but just not stock.

Is it with a Windows 10 machine? I'm the same boat as you man. Stock A2 ain't just budging.

It was really the impetus for moving my build into STA2 classic.

Yep, same here. Haven't been able to run stock A2 ever since I dug it out again in the spring of 2020.

Yeah, I'm on Win 10. It ran fine on 10 for years then just one day it stopped. I've always thought it must have been an update that changed one little thing that just doesn't like A2. I've tried workarounds and all sorts of things to no avail.

Sorry you guys cant play A2. Do you have an old computer you can play it on? If not, I think that Dell has refurbrished systems for around $250 or Walmart has some cheaper ones. Not sure this helps?

Thanks for the suggestions! But A2 still runs fine on Win10 via FleetOps, and stock A2 can still be played and modded using the Classic mod. It's just kind of a shame that the original game no longer works on modern systems.

I'm not sure this is of much help, but I can still run the stock version of Armada 2 on my laptop. I had installed it on my previous laptop and when I transferred to my current one it still ran. I did install a no CD exe when I got it, and it also has the 1.2.5 patch as well. I can even run the old Star Trek Vs Star Wars demo for it.

For reference, I think this a Win 10 issue, I have an older Win 7 laptop and stock A2 works fine.

Thanks mate! Is the game actually starting up but not playing when you do instant action/campaign, or is it just quitting out when it starts? And also are you using a copy that was installed on Windows 7 or was it installed recently?

Aye, I recall a fresh install from the CD for both machines, I already did the copy-paste thing and same result. Just a straight up crash to desktop with no error message.

I think I might know what the issue is. When I run the armada 2 exe that requires a cd, it crashes instantly without an error message. When I use my no CD exe however, it does work and I get to the starter menu. Try installing one and then see how it goes. Here’s a link to one:
