• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

Figured I'd just make one thread and add to it as I go.

If I have a Plasma-Disruptor Hybrid weapon, will it benefit from my consoles that give a bonus to plasma damage?

If i remember rightly, it only benefits from disruptor consoles.

{EDIT}

Yeah, thats right: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Plasma-Disruptor_Hybrid_Dual_Heavy_Cannons

  • Although this is a hybrid Plasma-Disruptor weapon, a [Console - Tactical - Plasma Infuser] will not affect the damage dealt. This is due to the fact that this weapon does Disruptor damage, and only includes the Plasma proc, while a Plasma Infuser boosts the Plasma energy type damage.
  • Using a [Console - Tactical - Plasma Infuser] will affect the Plasma fire proc inflicted by this weapon, rather than the damage inflicted by the weapon itself.

If you get consoles that boost your crit chance, then the plasma infuser consoles will benefit more (IIRC). Personally, I found the hybrids a little disappointing but with some of the newer consoles, they may be better.

Really? I love the hybrids - i've replayed the mission on occasion to get higher marked ones.

My klink character currently has used polarised disruptors fitted, I always found them acceptable - and as described above they use the disruptor consoles not the polaron ones.

Spiral waves were my favourite. But only arrays are available which was disappointing.

I love my mirror Neghvar, a friend gave her to me. But... Even with two fleet grade RCS thrusters with 40% turn boost each, it still turns like a brick in treacle lol

Lol; I've been flying a cruiser on my Fed captain and trying to bring my dual beams and dual cannons to bear with my Rom's warbird was a chore until I got a turn rate console.

Anyway, a couple more questions. When I activate my battle cloak during combat, NPCs can still see me. Do I just need to put more distance between us before cloaking or do I need to invest skill points in Starship Stealth to make that a viable tactic?

Also, I'm trying out the R&D system on this character, but I'm not making anything much better than what I can buy at the shipyard and it's always worse than the mission loot. Does this get better once I've leveled up my R&D skills or should I not waste my time?

My point is that when they were first released, you could only boost either the base damage type or the crits. Now you can do both. I may go back and outfit my Gorn with them as I was using them on him initially. Still don't think there are dual heavy or dual beams (could be wrong).

If you're reluctant to slot another RCS console, try the Undine rep console. It gives a turn rate bonus as well as the power level bonuses. I've taken to using it on my Vesta and other larger ships instead of an RCS.

Not too sure on the stealth front, i've never had a problem with it, but yeh possibly.

On the R&D side, you can craft better gear the higher your skill level. The task at the bottom of each school boosts crafting skill quickest. Obviously your rank dictates what you can actually use

Yes, you are detectable close in. I have the opposite problem in that I sometimes approach too close and get fired on before decloaking. It's only about 2k though.

Once you get to level 15 on a research element you gain a trait. That's the only real reason I do anything on R&D.
