Bryan Singer will direct the big screen movie of Battlestar Galactica. It will not be based on the more recent version but a complete reimagination of the original series.

UPDATED: Bryan Singer Is Confirmed to Direct Battlestar Galactica

From Wikipedia:
"The film will not be based on the Sci Fi Channel series of the same title; it will be based on the original series which starred Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict and the late Lorne Greene."

Whilst nice to see BSG back (in some form or another), I'm not so sure about this. They remade the series, and did it well. Other than a bit of money, what is the purpose of making this show for the big screen? Unless they do a Star Trek thing and reboot everything, and make it appeal to everyone, the only people that are going to watch it are BSG fans, and if thats the case, they ain't going to be getting huge crowds at the cinema.

Very interesting although I would rather they do the Cylon War from TNS of BSG rather than doing basically what they have just done and re-imagined it again.

I find this interesting for sure, I really hope that they can maintain the spirit of the original series even if they modernize it like TNS did.

To be perfectly honest, while I liked the new series I really never felt like I was watching Battlestar Galactica. I liked the stories involving struggles with the fleet, confrontations with the cylons and the political turmoil that erupted amongst the survivors but I got super sick of the religious iconography and the infiltrator cylons with their "master plan".

Frankly I dislike the concept of human looking cylons to being with and much less as every character, their mother and their dog then turned out to be revealed to be cylons. I was also severely disappointed by the last half of the finale.

A new Battlestar Galactica with a return to its roots which focuses on the pilots and the struggles of keeping the fleet together whilst combating the cylons would be my hope for the big screen interpretation.

Who knows though...

If it isn't a movie based on the new series with Edward James Olmos...i have to say i'm not interested in the least. That cast from the Sy Fy channel was PERFECT together.

Plus i wanna see more of Katee Sackhoff

I’m interested in Battlestar Galactic. I saw many episodes on AXN Sci-Fi Channel and it’s an interesting story about the evolution of Mankind and in the final the escape from the nightmare they’ve created. And starting all over again some time later on other planet, the same story.

I was seriously glad to see this was being based of the original series and not the re-imagined version. I won't go into why the ending of BSG-RS was so bad (as far as I'm concerned) but this is something I will be going to see.

I think this fizzled out many years ago, it was after all posted in 2009 and now being 2014 but no new work about it. Disappointing for sure, the classic held a lot more appeal story wise than Rom Moore's remark ever did.
