• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

I'm going to agree with everythign said before pertaining to this guild, including the rules and member acceptance requirements.

As I said before, the council idea is the defining point for me; makes it seem like it will not just be a hive but a collective (Trek pun intended).

One idea though, perhaps an election could be held amongst the three 'factions' every two years. These would determine the three concil members and one nominee for guild 'arbiter' (or whatever the position'll be called). the council members will then have an internal vote for this person once they are elected.

I myself am open to an elected counsel concept. One or 2 year terms would be best. This way, some counsel members can move on when they are ready, while others, can "prove" their worth to their parties. A trinary electoral system... sounds interesting. But I would caution the typical "political-ness" of most election bases systems. The counsel is not about "tell people what to do" (like demanding members donate "x" amount of materials, etc. That would be bad.).

One of the goals I hope this Guild can achieve, is making a name for itself as a serious player in the gaming industry. I image years from now, with a membership in the tens of thousands, that when the guild contacts a game developer on issues, the developer would take the guild seriously, and possibly comply with the guilds requests.

If we did the election idea. Rules for who is elegible to be elected would have to be decided. Like after the first election, if a council seat would require so much time as a member before being able to be elected. Just an idea.

Sounds like a great idea, it would help anyone from experienced modders starting/running a big project to newer modders who need help with their early mods. :)

havent read all the posts.

But What dan says is right. i think this is a brilliant idea, form the POV of a newbie modder!

I'm glad to see that more people are starting to express interest in this Guild concept. A few more "charter" members, and we can actually start getting this together and up and running.

one question -probably been answered but theres a lotta posting and i have a lecture in 5 mins.

- is the modding done in the "guild" Armada only? or does it branch out into other games, and franchises?

Well I'm going to do some tutorials for lightwave on modeling and animation. I may also release a random detail pack to help make high poly models.

Remember games have intro too. ;)

Jeddy: ALL games that are moddable are welcome inside the guild's walls.

RJB: Absolutely... And the games now days are getting more complex and able to run higher poly models too. These FPS games we are seeing are starting to boast single models that have 100K polies for "in-game" models, and 1, 2, 10 million poly models for "movies".

So is any progress getting made on this? I'd really hate to see a good idea fade away.

It's a bit of a slow time for some reason. But the idea is not about to fade away. I myself am more busy at work these days. So I tend to focus less time toward much anything. But that will correct itself after the first of the year.

By all means, this thread is for everyone to input ideas...
