• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Hello, fellow modders.

I'm sure most of you will remember this picture from TNG.

caro-tv.jpg

taken from wikipedia

That's right: The early Cardassian ships had some kind of red disruptor.
While this was changed in DS9, it's still canon. And, to be honest, it looks quite good, doesn't it?

So I decided to try and remake this effect. Of course, people like Jetfreak can do this much better than me. But I like how it looks now. Decide for yourself.

caro.jpg

Yeah, it's a bit more detailed. The TNG pic is quite blurry... :]

Here are a few additional shots I did.

Then I took my Color Calc and added the weapon lighting.
So, now, the Original Cardassian Disruptor in all its lethal glory.

caro4.jpg

I'm still adjusting a few things, but I'm almost done.
So, what do you think?

THAT is pretty awesome! The scene from TNG is pretty much accurately-emulated in Armada! That's some good work! Weapon effects have always been one of my main interests with the Armada series (aside from putting pods on ships and making them do crazy things, lol)!

I like it. You managed to portrait that disruptor pretty well. The texture is a tweaked generic A2 disruptor pattern, I guess, but it fits perfectly! I use stock textures for ship and weapon modifications myself and it looks really good!

Beautiful, very nicely done. I doubt that it could be improved upon by anyone.

I hope your planning on releasing it for the MSFC Community here. I would love to see more of our members contributing mods to this community, especially when it's quality like that.

+rep for some outstanding work.

its a cannon weapon from TNG..and the way i classify it..is that the Galors we saw in TNG were type2 destroyers while the DS9 were refitted and were given the designation 'Destroyer - Type 3'

I'm glad you all like it. :D

And I have to correct myself. Of course, the TNG picture was taken from Memory Alpha and not from Wikipedia. I'm sorry, Auntie Wiki.

No stock material used. You'd be surprised at what GIMP can do... :p

Of course it'll be released here. Maybe I'll upload it to A2files, too - but MSFC will be getting it first.
I'm tweaking the textures a little bit (smoothing a few edges) and I need a new ODF. The one I'm using ATM is a Metathran RailGun ODF taken from AOW4.1.7. But when I'm done you'll find it in your mailbox. ;)

It's an interesting designation. We could speculate that the Keldon is just another refit of the Galor. But then, there would have to be a Type 1. What could that be?

Sprite-based, just like every other standard disruptor.

Terra has submitted the file and it's up on the site now:

Early Cardassian Disruptor by Terra_Inc

Remember if you like it to send some feedback to Terra, the best form of thanks a modder can get is feedback. :)

No problems, I just must've misinterpreted it. I've spent the last 3 days either asleep or in bed for the most part reading a book. Not going to well.

But you did a awesome job with the weapon and it's something I'd love to see more of.

We'll see. I'm in my creative phase right now, even I don't know which idea I might have next... :D
