I am having a bit of an issue and i cant seem to be able to google an answer. Im sure the issue is me not knowing terminology. When I import this model into 3ds max the mesh is grey. Normally the mesh is a yellow amber color. The google says this is just a color change but it seems weird when it doesnt happen often. Next thing is the model disappears when I export it. the model has the nodes left but the actual model is gone. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I have found 3ds Max to be quite troublesome in porting certain models. I'd like to think the hardpoints can cause issues importing/exporting.

My hotfix is to isolate the meshes individually then work my way from there.

Is your goal just to convert the ship for gameplay or is it for renders?

my goal is to convert for gameplay. I have gotten that itch for armada 2 again. I have been putting a lot of hours into various little projects for my personal mod. Considering your The OG of content, i would love any tips you may have?

The truth is there's no one size fit all solution for converting ships from one format to the next.

Assuming you want the models done for Armada 2 I have quite a roundabout method:

Import the desired ship to 3ds Max
Remove any hardpoints (if from BC or SFC3, etc.),
Isolate the meshes and assign textures
Export to obj format
Import to Milkshape 3d
Review textures if any are missing
Fix texture materials, phong, lambert, etc.
Assign hardpoints (hp01, hp02, etc.)
Export to Armada 2 .sod format

And pray to Kahless it works in-game lol
