I doubt the writers thought out that part of the plot. They could theoretically say it was due to the Kazon having only a rudimentary understanding of science and how to use the Trabe ships they stole, but whatever.
And that Neelix is an idiot. He may very well not know how to make water.

Just had a separate thought, though. How do the Vidiians reproduce? They've been afflicted with the phage for two thousand years so the current group is most likely not the first generation to have been infected. Does the phage not infect the fun bits? If it does, shouldn't they be Vidiian in culture only and be a mix of hybrids at birth due to generations of using other species' reproductive organs?

If you remember the episode with the female Vidiian, she said something to the effect that the other children she grew up with feared her for being ill. It's possible that most of the population doesn't become infected until later in their lives (just past puberty, likely) and it's possible their reproductive systems remain intact long enough to reproduce.

I just thought of the perfect piece of decor to have in your house when training a puppy: one of those "It has been N days without an accident" signs.

Watching VOY and just realized that the nebula parting just ahead of the ship in the intro is a perfect example of what the navigational deflector does and not an error in animation.

Was the animation error a commonly held belief?

Just had a thought: Why didn't Janeway make Kes an ensign when she became the ship's nurse a couple episodes in?

I have downloaded Blender 2.79. Hopefully I can learn how to use it and make some magic.

I can honestly say this is the first time I've ever rage-quit a book.

Ooh, that sounds like a fun story. Probably more fun for the listener, admittedly.

Kirsten Beyer.

Voyager relaunch novel.

Apparently I'm a masochist who forgot my safeword.
The whole idea of the relaunch books always sounded a bit iffy to me. I take it you do not recommend them?

Some of them weren't bad. That being said, the ones produced in the last year or so (since DIS was announced) haven't been that great. Voyager was fine under Christie Golden but once Kirsten Beyer took over they got bad. TNG and DS9 can become difficult to pay attention to when the people in various positions change every three novels or so, but they're not horrible. Titan isn't bad so far, but they tend to keep a fairly consistent main crew. New Frontier was good for a while, but it eventually lost its charm.

So after a bad week at work I get home, start up Maya... and find that the windows update this week has screwed up the licensing. Guess I know what I'll be doing tomorrow

As for Trek books... I find them a mixed bag.
Titan is entertaining, but I find them a little patronising, as if they have to go out of the way to explain plot points in an obvious manner. I also found it irritating how every other page they had to have yet another new alien race we'd never heard of before and then spend that page describing them. I just found they didn't flow too well.
New Frontier I found a little childish, although the plots tended to be OK.
The new TNG I thought worked quite well, as do the Typhon Pact series, and I liked the Destiny trilogy (although I do find it difficult to reconcile how Dax went up the food chain so fast).
The Voyager relaunch books I found a bit mixed. On the one hand I thought they were well written and the characters well done. On the other hand, I hated that they used the Q to dig themselves out of a plot hole they had made for themselves (I won't spoil it for those who haven't read them). I also felt that the authors sometimes forget how big a starship is. Voyager suddenly is big enough to separate but a Vesta with a crew of 700 (or thereabouts) can put crashland and be repaired on a planet. It's these little inconsistencies which break my immersion. I also get fed up of Seven.

I am still firm in my opinion that the best Trek author is Diane Carey, especially when it's a TOS era book.

So after a full morning I have managed to go from Maya not accepting the license to Maya not even starting. This is after half a dozen reinstalls. I may try rolling back windows but I suspect that I am out of the modelling business o_O

EDIT - nothing for it, the restore point is only a few days ago.

EDIT 2 - well the system restore takes it back to a point where it will start and request license details. But when I try to enter them it fails partway through the process, and restarting the software takes me back to the stage where the software doesn't start.
So, doing another system restore to undo it again and then I'm going to have another think about what to do.

Good luck, KJC. Have you tried customer support? It could be something on their end, at least partially.

-----------------

I wish Voyager was filmed in widescreen just so they could have done the Captain Proton bits in 4:3 for effect.

It's a 2012 version, so probably wont help. I've got a few more things to try tomorrow, my sister says then new MS patch has a lot of bugs as well so it may be a case of waiting for the next Windows update. Worst comes to the worst I'll dig out my old XP machine and go back to lower poly modelling in version 5.

You'd think so, but there's a Cargo Bay 2 that Kes converted into a farm and a second Cargo Bay 2 that serves as Seven's quarters. The second is on Deck 8. A third Cargo Bay 2 on Deck 4 was rammed by a Kazon shuttle and destroyed. In "Night," Neelix proposes converting a Cargo Bay 2 into a holodeck. It could be the one that was rammed by the shuttle, but it can't be either Kes' or Seven's Cargo Bay 2 because they need Kes' for food and Seven was already living in the other. So that's three places named Cargo Bay 2 at a minimum.

Well still no joy. I've now rolled back for the fifth time (unfortunately I don't seem to have any pre-patch saves) and I'm just going to re-update STO and World of Warships again.
Because Maya gave me 7 days grace to sort out my license I have exported the Swiftsure and my quad nacelle Excelsior to obj just in case Maya 5 doesn't work with the later mb files. It seems I haven't done too many ships with the new version, just a couple of really big ones and a bunch of renders.
Perhaps its time to learn Blender...

What the hell man? Must be a real buzzkill getting blindsided by the license. You tried Googling if people with Maya have encountered the same problems with the Windows update?

Yeah, to say I was not impressed is an understatement. It's been a grotty week at work and I just wanted to zone out and forget it. Turn on the PC and get a No License message. D'oh.
So I try to re-enter the license and I get an error message saying Maya has stopped responding. Close it, restart it and it doesn't even start, instead I get a completely different error. Googling that error shows that it is a well known one, there are all sorts of suggested fixes but it seems like its only a 50% success rate - and none of them worked for me. only way I can get back to the "duff license" point is to roll back Windows.
Unfortunately I can't roll back to before the update.
Googling the original problem shows that it is known and has occurred a number of times before. Not found a fix yet though.

The drives are fine, but sometimes the motherboard doesn't detect all the hardware on boot. It actually failed to detect the CPU yesterday. Thankfully, it's only on boot, so I don't have to worry about my drives disappearing once I've gotten to Windows.

I had this issue too after testing a hard drive. After trying everything I could think of, I cleared my cmos. After that, everything worked great. Might want to give that a try.

I just did a factory reset. I had fiddled around in there before and I did get the motherboard pre-owned, so that probably would have been a good idea when I first got it, now that I think about it. It booted just fine, but the system was still warm, which seems to help for some reason, so I suppose I'll really know tomorrow. Fingers crossed and all that.

Edit: Looks like the adapter for my rear fan was also dead. Swapped it out with an extra and it's fine now.
