• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

The Romulan Tebok isn't bad either. It helps that the curve on the wings isn't as severe as on the other two Warbirds.

So the Mirror Invasion event is running on STO. Good lord I hate this event. There was once upon a time that people complained that they ran out of portals and had to wait out the timer. Valid complaint as I was in a few of those matches and it did get boring waiting. It was asked that a trigger be added so that if the last portal closed before the timer expired that it would advance the mission automatically. Instead, the increased the number of portals that can spawn. OK, that could work.....only they did not cap the number of portals that could spawn at one time. So now you can have a screen full of portals that makes it impossible to keep up. They REALLY need to look this over and make adjustments.

Why can't they just make something pretty? I almost stuck to my Nova after unlocking the Research Science Vessel before deciding I really needed the stats. At least the Intrepid is next up. But seriously, why do the new designs have to be so ugly? And why are advanced ships always stupid huge? The Defiant was probably the most advanced ship in the fleet when it came out and it was also one of the smallest. The Intrepid-class is smaller than the Galaxy-class despite being newer and more advanced. Even the Enterprise-E has a smaller crew compliment and fewer decks than the Enterprise-D.
I actually find the Fed one okay. Then again, I do have a weakness for what KJC correctly calls "space whales", considering the Starchaser is one of my favorite designs. Actually, this one could kind of work as a heavier, 25th century version of the Starchaser. Would probably need an appropriately-sized deflector dish, though.
The Ops variant IMHO clearly works best, with a nicely galaxyish saucer and the nacelle struts slightly bending away from each other. It actually pulls off the four nacelle look quite nicely, especially from the front.

The problem I have with the designs is that the rear portion of the ship that connects the upper and lower hulls is so small it's almost non-sensical. If they distributed the mass of the forward part of the stardrive between the two, it might look better. I'm fine with space whales if they're designed right.

And the Winter Event has started. So go run the races and shoot snowmen. This years ship is the T6 version of the Breen Raider.

On the uniforms for today, I already had all but the Telaxian set so that is what I got. My son discovered that you can claim all four sets.

200 marks today. Doesn't say whether it's character or account in the blog article, but should say in the zen store

I think the Walker Class and the new phaser rifle will be popular. Not so sure about the Discovery or the Sarcophagus.

EDIT
Free T5 Defiant, T5 B'Rel and T5 Dehelan today.

EDIT AGAIN...
Pretty cinematics. God how I hate the whole spinning flip Discovery does.

It was only a mater of time before they came to STO. Is it just me or does the Walker class look like it is suppose to be a successor to the Centaur class? Honestly I think these ships fit better in STO than they do in the shows supposed timeframe.

EDIT: The one thing that does disappoint me is that they didn't design their own Romulan designs like they did with the Undiscovered and Kelvin lock boxes.

huh, they actually fit in STO. I wonder about the Sarcophagus's firing arcs though, it seems as if it's all outside, like the weapons are drones protecting it...

So I think the Fed miracle worker ships would have worked if they'd removed the front half of the necks. I think that's all that was needed to make them look decent.

The designs definitely look like they fit in STO, since it's the 25th Century.

Still love the Shenzhou (Walker Class), it's about the only design I actually like in all of STD. But it looks like it should be serving alongside the Akira and Intrepid classes, not the original Constitution. Would have loved to have seen that in Armada 2.

Still despise the Discovery, the general design is just a mess. She looks well built but I just don't like the design.

The sarcophagus ship is just plain hideous, I think that is probably the worst design I have ever seen in all of Star Trek and that includes that awful "Enterprise J". Jesus, it just looks like a half plucked vulture that died of dehydration. :yuck:
