• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Obviously for me it was A1. I remember how happy I was to allow the Federarion to mass produce the Jem Hadar attack ship :) Then is was onto bigger, better mods. Have made anything large scale is some time. Although that might have something to do with having to re-learn things once again (modding EAW took away alot of time).

I remember changing the texture of the Sovereign in game which started my obsession to this day. I also remember the first time I got the torpedoes to rapid fire. I remember thinking to myself..."oh its on now!"

For me it was A1 for first play and first modding, first models have been Storm 3d Tool tweeked ones. Later i got 3ds max 2 and had to send the models to Dawn, who was kindly enough to convert them for me, as there where no SOD plugins for 3ds max 2. Than there came A2 and its still one of my two favorite RTS games to date, C&C TS is the second. FO was only tweeked a bit with odf-mods as adding ship models to it is to complicated to me and i don't have the time and will to learn more about modding it.

Haha, I remember all of those stretched out stock models being released at first. When people started importing real models I was like a kid in a candy store.

I began playing Star Trek Armada 2 not knowing it was moddable. Out of curiousity I went looking and found File Front since then I've been modding it every chance I can get. Adding ships, stations, planets. I've tried several styles unfortunately some would crash and I have to reinstall. even sadder as I moved the game from pc to pc I lost a lot of the Mods I had stored so haven't been able to add them. I am still trying to get my AI to build Star War Ships but some reason the sound didn't carry over and the game refuses to build.

I don't do much modding these days, but I did work quite extensively with the AI in my days. If you post a new thread about your AI issues, I can probably help you out with that.

I started with Armada 2. And played most of the mods I could get on Filefront.

I am a huge fan of Stargate and saw that there are no mods for it, so I created one in 3 months flat out of the ships on Filefront.
I had:
Tauri(done).
Asgard(done).
Ori(done, kind of...).
Goauld(done).
Replicators(done, although a buggy, gamecrashing A.I....)
Wraith(no cruisermodel).
Sadly the machine died of mainboardfailure and I had to clear the hard disc. So it is gone for good.
I never uploaded it anywhere.

A Battlefleet Gothic mod(Warhammer 40k) would be nice, but there are few models out there and all projects tend to die very soon.....

I play Fleet OPS this days amongst other games like Empire at War, Dawn of War-Soulstorm and something like that. With several mods.

I first played armada 1, I didn't even know you could mod the game until many years after purchasing it. I then got Armada 2 and got into mods cause the vanilla game is so terrible. Fleetops became my go to Armada 2 mod cause it felt like the sequel Armada 1 should have had, well at least in terms of Skirmish mode. The Armada Restoration Project became my go to Armada 1 mod cause it added a lot of cosmetic changes without altering the single player campaign experience too much.

OK, giant post incoming!

As I've mentioned a few times since I joined a couple of days ago, I started with A1 and learned to mod on it. I first began modding by adding additional ships I liked or better looking versions of the stock models. I then joined the B5 Armada TC team, cause I wanted as early access to it as possible :lol2:

We jumped to Armada 2 with the B5A2 TC not that long after beginning work on the A1 mod, from what I vaguely remember, we just imported many of the models to the new game. Although there were some better looking replacements later and the lighting on many models for the cinematic style pov was also tweaked in.

In terms of Campaign, I enjoyed the original A1 more. Something about A2's was not as captivating for me. In terms of modding and Instant Action, I like all of the additions that A2 brought.

Generally speaking I would have a gigantic custom mod in my personal game. Now that I'm going back to modding A2, I plan on replacing all Stock A2 races with better models. I'll leave the campaign alone so that it is playable with the better looking models but heavily modify Instant Action. Luckily I have all of my mods saved on a disc so I wouldn't lose them after uninstall.

My Instant Action game will look something like this:
1) Federation = I will add an additional construction ship and modify the AI to build my custom tree. This will begin with Archer's United Earth timeline (Including allies such as Vulcans and Andorians) and proceed through the Federation with Axanar's tech and end in the Alternate Reality line (JJ-verse or Kelvin line or whatever that's called), I'm currently building my Enterprise hero ship. I may leave 24th century bonus ships that I really like, such as the Dawnstar, but I'll generally use this timeline. I may have the Federation AI build Terran Empire universe ships if I can find enough ships and stations for it and have them be the Earth enemy but I doubt it. All I need to begin work on this is to get the Axanar ships and I'll being my editing of the techtrees.

2) Klingons = I will create their techtree from the Enterprise timeline forward into the JJ-verse and TMP era. Unfortunately, there're very little AR Klingon ships made so I'll just fill out their generational list with Prime universe ships.

3) Romulans = Same thing as the Klingons, Ent-TMP tech.

4) Borg, Cardassians, Species 8472 = Will get stock upgrades to better looking models. I may or may not switch out or add earlier enemies such as Suliban or Xindi. I don't think I can tinker too much of these and have it make sense. Especially without affecting the campaign.

5) Earth Alliance (B5) = One of my faves. I'll have two techtrees. One for me where I can go from the Minbari War tech to the Post-B5 Warlock era and a second techtree for the AI which diverges during the Civil War to use Shadow Earth hybrids.

6) InterStellar Alliance (B5) = Combination of the races of the League of Non-Aligned Worlds, the Narn Regime and the Minbari Federation. They also get B5 as their base. Maybe I'll place the Vorlons with them, though that's not accurate to their story arc.

7) Centauri Republic (B5) = Centauri forces will have their own tech alongside the Dra'kh and possibly the Shadows.

8) United Earth Forces = My own pers0nal smorgasboard of multiple Earth realities banded together against much more advanced races. The name comes from Space Above and Beyond, one of my fave shows and contains the only few ships made for A2 from that series. They also contain ships and stations from Stargate, the Colonials from Battlestar Galactica, the Colonial Marines from Aliens and other misc human space tech.

9) Undetermined Evil Schmucks (Not actual name) = I may group the Suliban, Xindi, Cylons and other misc enemies here for space reasons. If I have the space and enough ships/stations to give any of these their own race, I will, same as the Colonials above.

I have all I need to add the Republic/Rebels and the Separatists/Empire but adding them depends on space.

So this is pretty much what I'll be working on. If you read this far...you may need a map or at least some pizza...so, sorry...:lol2:
